Monic Morris
b. 1984, San Francisco, CA ∙ CE artist since 2022
Monic Morris is a visually impaired artist who uses a tactile approach to artmaking. To create her vibrantly colored drawings, she first plays with cut-out shapes, attaching them to paper. Then, she vigorously applies color to the field with sweeping, energetic gestures. She then removes the shapes to create negative space, then repeats the process. Her favorite art supplies are color pencils, oil pastels, and markers.
Monic says creating art makes her happy, and her positivity and openness to new ideas lends itself to her art-making. She enjoys trying new color combinations and is always starting new projects, gladly engaging with teaching artists for their suggestions and advice. She is a very friendly person who likes to socialize, and she enjoys her time at the studio with the other artists. Monic is a fast worker and goal-oriented; she had her first exhibit in 2023 showing her work at Creativity Explored’s second studio in Potrero Hill.
