Jason Monzon
b. 1980 ∙ CE artist since 2006
Jason Monzon enjoys using watercolor, colored pencils, and collage, and has even created sculpture in papier-mâché.
Monzon is a meticulous artist who is notable for his excellent draftsmanship in creating highly-detailed landscapes and portraits. Simplified linework and delicate washes of color lend an elegant quality to his painting and mixed media artworks.
Monzon’s scenes of animals and organic forms are whimsical, swimming in the blue of the sky. Giraffes and horses are common figures in these scenes, usually facing left and depicted in profile, resting on a flat horizon.
His use of precise geometrical patterns, stripes, and dots complement the organic and sinuous flora in his pencil drawings, playfully destabilizing the scale and perspectives of his subjects. His colorful and mesmerizing scenes exude the mythological quality of vibrant and carefully planned hand-woven textiles.
