Vanessa Ruffin
b. 1992 ∙ CE artist since 2014
Vanessa Ruffin's work is marked by depth and layering often incorporating collage into her pieces. Whether collaging an abstract mixed-media work, painting watercolor abstract shapes, painting a colorful octopus swimming in the sea, or elaborate decorated cakes, pattern is the re-occuring element in her work.
Ruffin’s large-scale papier-mache sculptures are noteworthy. Working over a period of months, Ruffin builds massive pop sculptures of food: a donut, grapes, and even a massive textured Cheetoh with an accompanying bag. Her drawings and paintings of junk food packaging are characterized by the inclusion of warning labels, nutritional facts, promotional taglines and brand logos.
