Tonya Lewis
b. 1962, Texas ∙ CE artist since 1990
A very physical artist, Tonya Lewis enjoys the tactile qualities of paint, papier-mâché, and pastels. She likes to layer different media and etch into her work after it has dried to reveal the colors beneath. Her art varies between abstract and figurative, and she prefers to work on a large scale.
More recently Lewis has been interested in portraiture, painting likenesses of celebrities she admires. Lewis’ sense of touch is not limited to her art making practices. She is a highly intuitive woman who has cured many backaches with her magic massages — a powerful way that she connects with friends, volunteers, and staff.
