Peter DeLira
b. 1992 ∙ CE artist since 2014
Peter DeLira finds his inspiration from natural history, pop culture, and nature. Studying pictures from books and images found online, DeLira enjoys drawing dinosaurs, animals, insects, fossils, famous artists, and celebrities. DeLira’s work often emphasizes the organic forms that make up his subjects using a variety of stylistic techniques.
Sometimes his subjects are depicted in profile in 8-bit-style grids of color, while his portraiture tends toward a playfully flattened perspective reminiscent of Matisse. No matter his subject, DeLira’s definitive shapes, and steady linework are a mainstay of his practice. His portraits are often rich in color and personality. DeLira’s careful attention to hairstyles, textures, and environments present his subjects as actively sitting for a portrait, engaging with the viewer/artist and ready to strike up a conversation.
