Ernesto Sosa
b. 1970, El Salvador ∙ CE artist since 1995
Born in El Salvador, Ernesto Sosa moved to San Francisco with his family. In 1995, at age 25, he became a Creativity Explored studio artist.
Sosa’s mostly figurative work is very grounded in pattern. He integrates depictions of animals and people into large, intricately patterned drawings and acrylic paintings. Sosa’s preferred subject matter is a bear-like figure composed of geometric shapes usually done in a striking black and white palette. Another common thread in Sosa’s artwork is the way he fills space with repeating dashes. This element is perhaps a link between his two dimensional art and the textile work he has become increasingly involved in.
In addition to making art, Sosa is also a student at City College, and an enthusiastic fan of Reggaeton music who loves to go out dancing every weekend.
