Caitlyn Quibell

b. 1989 CE artist from 2015 -

Passionate about painting from a young age, Caitlyn Quibell finds her inspiration from the natural world and animated movies. Flowers are a repeating subject in Quibell's art practice, often rendered in her favorite colors: pink, purple, and black. Inspired by the animated movie, Alice in Wonderland, Quibell recreated the talking flower painting the stem black and the flower pink.

Although painting is her preferred medium, she is open to trying new things. In 2016, she started a series of Pan-Asian food sculptures. She carefully crafted a salmon sushi roll using tracing paper painted green with a touch of black to make the nori, orange playdough with streaks of white playdough for the salmon, and styrofoam balls for the rice. For Chinese egg rolls made of felt and papier-mâché, Quibell followed a diagram on how to properly roll the egg roll. Her Asian culinary delights are comically realistic in their precise attention to detail at a slightly larger than life scale.
