Badia Forbes
1987 - 2015, Boston, MA ∙ CE artist from 2009 - 2015
Badia Forbes took her artistic inspiration from the lives around her: her family, her guardian, and her cat. Relationships were the key to her process, evidenced by Forbes’ accomplished portraiture. All of her work has the painterly qualities of controlled but expressive brushwork and palette. Her figures are proportioned precisely, yet given moments of unique expressiveness, such as an elongated neck or a head tilted at a radical angle.
Forbes worked in the Creativity Explored studio from 2009 until she passed away in 2015. Forbes was often overheard reading aloud the horoscopes of everyone nearby, and was a natural and enthusiastic member of the Friday dance class held in the studio. In fact, the bustling CE studio atmosphere helped Forbes get “nice and relaxed” and "tuned-in" to the human activity surrounding her. This interaction of personalities was felt in the honest and loving style of her painting.
