Andrew Lee passed in 2023, all of us at Creativity Explored miss him very much.
Working primarily in ink and watercolor Andrew Lee peruses books of classical paintings from which he draws inspiration. His source materials are broad and far-reaching, enabling Lee to explore Hindu mythology, classical European Renaissance paintings and American pop culture. Lee’s friendly and colorful aesthetic is defined by his clean linework and a strong sense of perspective.
Lee’s work demonstrates a strong archival impulse, seen in his rapid and hand-done cataloguing of all the paintings in an art history book, or in compositing together every main Disney character from 1955 to the present - entirely from memory. Lee’s work ethic is something to behold, diligently working with very little interruption, until he has completed the new painting of the day.
